New Jaguar Ingenium Engine

Jaguarhas always been one step ahead of its game and it is becoming even more so with its brand new, cutting-edge technology that we can expect to see in its forthcoming cars.

Here is a glimpse of the new engine

And this is its new line of engines- Ingenium. Promising low friction, an enhanced performance and improved efficiency, Ingenium has been designed to not only impact our engines now, but also future technologies to come. This can be seen by the engines inclusion of what Jaguar Land-Rover (JLR) calls ‘state-of-the-art-turbochargers’ which share components with diesel and petrol engines as well as hybrid systems. This hints strongly towards the notion that JLR will be releasing a number of hybrid cars in the future.

Boasting a 500cc per cylinder aluminium block, both petrol and diesel power-plants can be based upon the new design, with bore, stroke and cylinder being shared too- therefore allowing a faster transition between design and production. This leads to a more effective response to changes in demand and ensures JLR will always be ahead of the game.

This advanced development offers class-leading levels of torque, horsepower and refinement, whilst simultaneously reducing emission levels and fuel consumption. This ensures the growing customer demand for lower fuel consumption and cost of ownership is met, without any compromise on performance or driver experience.

The Jaguar XE is one of the first models to be fitted with the new ingenium engine

"Engineering and manufacturing our own engines improves our ability to react to changes in demand and improves our ability to react to changes in legislation and competitive technologies in the future," added Dr Ziebart. "We believe that with the range of technologies we are investing in, Jaguar Land Rover can absolutely satisfy the often conflicting requirements of delivering engaging high-performance luxury vehicles that reduce our carbon footprint in the long-term."

The first of the Ingenium engines to go into volume production- a 2.0 litre diesel known as AJ200D- boasted a friction reduction of 17% compared to the current engine, , making it one of the most efficient and responsive 2.0-litre turbo diesels in its segment. Some of the vehicles to boast this new engine include the new 2016 Range Rover Evoqueand the new Jaguar XE with it expected to be rolled out to numerous models in the future.
