Peugeot adds all-electric model to new 208 line-up

Author: Sam Allibone

Peugeot have introduced the all-new 208 hatchback, set to arrive along with an electric powertrain model named the “e-208”.

New 208 Front

The new 208 has its sights set firmly on the class leaders such as the Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Polo. The interior design has been completely modernised to look and feel very premium. Chrome touches adorn the instrument cluster and infotainment screen surrounds, as well as the supercar-esc toggle buttons. Piano black trim with carbon-fibre effect inserts offer an upmarket feel, whilst the GT trim adds extra embellishment such as Alcantara grey upholstery and 17” alloys on the exterior.

New 208 Interior

GT Line and GT models also get gloss black wheel arch extensions and window edging to enhance the sporty character. At the front, the larger grill and signature LED headlight design makes for an aggressive and striking appearance. The head and tail lights are designed to mimic feline features, such as the 3-claw style taillights, akin to Peugeot’s Lion badge.

New 208 Back

The 208 comes well-equipped, too. Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Positioning Assist and Driver Attention Monitoring will aid drivers with long motorway trips, whilst Full Park Assist will help with parking when they reach their destination. Automatic headlight dipping, speed limit/traffic sign recognition and blind spot monitoring are other features on the new 208.

Three petrol engines, one diesel engine and one all-electric engine will be available. The petrol engines consist of a 75bhp with a manual transmission, 100bhp with either a manual or automatic, and a 130bhp only with an automatic gearbox. The diesel is a manual unit producing 100 bhp. The electric unit will support 211 miles under WLTP figures, and can charge 80% of its battery in 30 minutes using a rapid charging station.

New e-208

The e-208 gets Peugeot’s MyPeugeot Smartphone app, which can be used to pre-programme heating, air conditioning and windscreen defrosting. The app can also activate the charging of the e-208. More information about the upcoming car will be released at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.
