The Posh New Renault Clio

Author: Sam Allibone

Renault have redesigned their supermini to allude a more premium feel, using plush interior embellishments and a range of exterior styling upgrades.

New Renault Clio Front

Unlike the previous model, the new Clio will feature LED headlights as standard across the range, now shaped in a distinctive ‘C’ design, as seen on the Megane and other Renault models. Extra creases in the bonnet extend downwards towards the grill surrounding the diamond badge, which is now larger, allowing greater efficiency in engine cooling. The sides of the vehicle get posh-looking chrome strips; an update on the black mass from the previous model. Chrome strips also outline the windows, adding to the premium feel.

Renault keeps the Clio looking sporty by continuing to integrate the rear door handle into the window segment. Towards the back, the ‘C’ headlight design is also sculpted into the rear lights, which sit across from a reworked rear window line which integrates itself with the tailgate more seamlessly. This generates a more rounded appearance, only broken by the strong insert which houses the number plate. Just below, another chrome strip increases the luxury feel.

New Renault Clio Back

Inside is where Renault has really made an impact. Most visible areas, such as the dashboard, door panels and centre console, feature soft-touch materials for high-end quality. The Clio features an eye-grabbing 9.3 inch infotainment screen (on all but the entry-level model) in the centre console – double that of the previous version. The screen houses all media such as navigation and infotainment features. The second screen in the car presents the instrument cluster on a 7-10 inch display, showing things such as navigation on the 10” version.

Even the steering wheel has been meticulously thought-out, offering a larger hoop for greater visibility, a thumb rest and back-lit controls to enhance the quality feel. Rear passengers will not be disappointed with the rear space either – a semi-soft shell offers increased knee room, and the thin comma-shaped headrest on the front seats adds to the spacious feel.

New Renault Clio Interior

Much like Volkswagen’s R-Line trim, which combines sporty styling (reminiscent of the performance models) with more practical engines, Renault have designed an R.S. Line trim. It will be replacing the GT-Line trim from the previous model and will look to better liken the Clio’s appearance to the performance R.S model. A honeycomb grill, unique 17” alloy wheels and a mock rear diffuser will create a sporty outline for the Clio, whilst sports seats, carbon-style inserts, a perforated leather steering wheel and aluminium pedals bring home the sporty feel to the interior.

New Renault Clio R.S Line Trim

It is expected a punchier engine with around 150bhp will be offered in the R.S. Line trim. Whilst no engine specifications have been officially announced, Renault have stated that there will be a E-Tech Hybrid version, which we can expect to hear more about at the Geneva Motor Show.
