The new BMW 7 Series

Author: Sam Allibone

BMW have updated their flagship saloon to incorporate their new design language along with a refreshed interior.

7 Series Front

The new BMW 7 Series has been redesigned for an impressive and eye-catching presence. The kidney grille has undergone one of the most notable changes, having been drastically increased. It also features active air flap control, which will open and close the vents to regulate the engine temperature and improve aerodynamics.

Like the new 3 Series, the LED lights are now narrower, and Air Breathers have been added to the side of the 7 Series to aid in the aerodynamics of the wheel arches. 18” light-alloy wheels come as standard on the car, with the option to add up to 21” alloys. Like the previous model, the saloon will continue the tradition of having two different wheelbase models: the standard and the long wheelbase.

7 Series Back

Inside, wireless charging is standard as well as the 6 colour LED ambient lighting. In the back, there are two 10” full-HD displays with a Blu-Ray player included. These screens can access many features of the car, including the entertainment and navigation aspects.

BMW have added their BMW Touch Command unit to the saloon too, which provides the user with the ability to programme the car from anywhere within its vicinity. Seat position, interior lighting, climate control, infotainment, navigation and communication systems can all be controlled using the portable tablet.

7 Series Interior

Six, eight and 12 cylinder engines will be available on the new model with a variety of petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid power. Fastest in the range is the £139,000 M760Li, a 585bhp model capable of 0-62mph in just 3.8 seconds. Other models consist of the 750i, 745e, 740i, 740d and 730d, most with 4WD. The entry-level is a 730d (or 730Ld for the long wheelbase version), with a reasonable 265 bhp and 0-62 time of 6.1 seconds.

Pricing for the 7 Series starts at £69,430 for the standard car, or £73,500 for the long wheelbase model. It will go on sale from April 13th 2019.
