Volkswagen Have Released an Image of a 6-Wheeled Touareg

Author: Sam Allibone

The German car giant has released a first look at the upcoming 6-wheeled SUV, due to launch in 2021.

Volkswagen's 6-Wheeler Touareg

The 6-wheeled Touareg is yet to be officially named, but speculation has it that the SUV will be called the ‘Touareg Allspace’. The behemoth will probably land in summer 2021, creating an entirely new genre of large sport utility vehicle.

It will likely feature the largest diesel and petrol engines currently available on the model: a diesel 3.0 Litre TDI unit producing 286PS, and a 340PS 3.0 Litre TFSI petrol unit. Each engine will continue to be paired with an 8-Speed automatic gearbox.

The normal Touareg features Volkswagen’s 4MOTION four-wheel drive system, which the Touareg Allspace is expected to carry on. The six-wheel drive technology will likely be named ‘6MOTION’, and will be the first of its kind.

Inside, it is believed the cockpit will remain unchanged from the current model, still featuring a 15 inch infotainment display and a 12 inch digital instrument cluster. The extra space at the back will house another row of seats, increasing the Touareg’s passenger carrying capacity from 5 to 7 people. Boot space will be dramatically increased too, outshining the Audi Q7 and Land Rover Range Rover Sport.

The Touareg Allspace has had hints of getting additional options over the current model too. Cameras protruding from the window pillars could be available to aid with tight corners, and a ground clearance system ('Ground Assist') could be on the cards – helping the driver not to ground the long vehicle over steep hills. The panoramic sunroof will still be available, stretching from the front cabin right the way to the boot – this is assumed to be a very expensive add-on.

Pricing is estimated to start from £70,000 when it goes on sales in the future. It will certainly be an eye-catching vehicle and one to watch out for.

If you've made it this far, congratulations! We have just one thing to add...Happy April Fools Day!
